Statue of Mother Marianne Cope

The statue of Blessed Marianne Cope was officially dedicated by Bishop Larry Silva on January 23, 2010, Mother Marianne's birthday and feastday. The statue, which faces toward Molokai, was placed at Kewalo Basin. She and other sisters went to Molokai in 1888 to continue the work of Father Damien De Veuster at the Kalaupapa peninsula settlement.

Saint Damien of Molokai, pray for us.

"God and Father of all gifts,we praise you,the Source of all we have, and are! We thank you for our beloved Saint Damien, servant of God and Servant of humanity, of the Congregation of the Sacred Hearts of Jesus and Mary, who ministered to the people of Kalawao and Kalaupapa, on the island of Molokai. On this beautiful days, we honor him as we honor you! teach us to acknowledge always the many good things your infinite love has given us. Help us to love you with all our heart. For you have said, "love one another as I have loved you!" (John 15:12) We ask this through Our Lord Jesus Christ, Amen." -Very Rev. Christopher Keahi, ss.cc

"Were it not for the constant presence of our Divine Master in our humble chapel, I would not have found it possible to persevere in sharing the lot of the afflicted in Molokai...The Eucharist is the bread that gives strength...It is the most eloquent proof of His love and the most powerful means of fostering His love in us. He gives Himself every day so that our hearts as burning coals may set afire the hearts of the faithful."
(Fr. Damien, Apostle of Molokai)

Book on Mother Marianne Cope

New arrival at Pauline Books & Media!

Here is an inspiring story of a great and holy woman-Blessed Marianne Cope of the Sisters of St. Francis of Syracuse, New York. She spent thirty years at Kalaupapa, Molokai, caring for Hansen Disease patients.

"I am not afraid of any disease; hence, it would be my greatest delight even to minister to the abandoned 'lepers'".
